Happy New Year!
Welcome to the first 'Jobs for the Week' email of 2025.
I have planned out a full year's worth of decluttering tasks which will cover every area of your home. Stick with it for the full 12 months and you will see some amazing results.
As well as these FREE emails, I will also be launching some brand new online courses for those who need a bit of extra help and encouragement. Keep an eye out for some extra emails about them.
This month we will be focusing on building decluttering momentum. This means easy decisions with maximum results. With that in mind, we are starting with RUBBISH!
If you have 5 minutes
Grab a bin bag and maybe extra bags for things which can be recycled. Spend 5 minutes going around your space and picking out rubbish. When I say rubbish, I literally mean rubbish for the bin or recycling. That might be empty toilet rolls, left over wrapping paper, food packaging, etc. At the end of your 5 minutes, put the rubbish and recycling directly in the bin(s). Don't be tempted to just put it to one side.
If you have 30 minutes
Grab those rubbish and recycling bags and tackle more areas of your home. Focus on the most visible areas first so you are more likely to notice the results. This will make you more motivated to carry on with the process. Again, throw the rubbish into the bin(s) as soon as you are done. We want to avoid double handling anything.
NOTE: if you come across anything which makes you stop and consider, that is not rubbish. We are looking for obvious trash.
If you have longer
Once you've tackled the visible areas and removed the rubbish, tackle the less visible areas. You may be thinking 'I don't have rubbish in my cupboards and drawers', but you'll be surprised. Throw out any used up toiletries, food packaging, old receipts, etc. which you come across.
NOTE: do not be tempted to start emptying out cupboards and drawers at this stage. Just declutter the rubbish you can see. We want to avoid making more mess at this point.
