Continuing with the outdoor theme, this week we are decluttering and organising camping gear. Not the outdoors type? Pick a different category to work on this week.
Let me know how you get on and tag me in your progress photos.
If You Have 5 Minutes
Quick glance: Open your camping cupboard, garage shelf, or storage box. Pull out anything you know is broken, mouldy, or missing key parts—like bent tent poles or torn sleeping bags.
Check for doubles: Look for duplicates—how many torches, mugs, or mallets do you really need? Set extras aside to donate or give away to friends or family (if they want it).
If You Have 30 Minutes
Sort and group: Lay out all your camping items—tents, bedding, cooking gear, tools, lighting, and accessories. Group by type to see what’s essential and what’s just taking up space.
Be practical: Ask yourself: Have I used this in the last year or two? Does it work properly? Is it still fit for the type of camping I do? Let go of outdated or oversized gear you no longer need.
Organise your kit: Pack your keepers into clear bins or storage bags. Label them clearly—tent gear, cooking kit, cold-weather items—and keep them stored together so you’re ready for your next trip.
If You Have Longer
Test and clean: Set up your tent to check for rips or missing parts, inflate air beds, and test camping stoves. Clean any dirty or dusty items before putting them back.
Rehome spares: Offer surplus equipment to friends, family, or community groups. Some shelters or scout groups may also accept quality second-hand gear.
Plan ahead: Make a list of essentials you need to replace or upgrade. Decluttering now helps you avoid last-minute scrambles before your next trip.
This Week’s Challenge:
Declutter five camping items you no longer use or need. Well-organised gear makes packing for your next adventure quicker, lighter, and more enjoyable.
