Jobs for the Week: Decluttering Outerwear

Wrap up warm without the overwhelm—let’s tidy up your coats, jackets, and accessories!

If You Have 5 Minutes

• Quick hook check: Look at your coat rack or hooks. Are there jackets or coats you haven’t worn all season? Pull out one or two which you can let go of.

• Accessory sweep: Check for mismatched gloves, worn-out scarves, or hats you never wear. Remove anything that’s damaged or unloved.

  
  

If You Have 30 Minutes

• Sort by season: Lay out all your outerwear and separate it into current season, off-season, and no longer needed. Store off-season items in a clean, dry space and decide what to do with the rest.

• Condition check: Inspect each item for wear and tear—broken zippers, missing buttons, or irreparable stains. Decide whether to repair, donate, or recycle.

• Organise by use: Keep your everyday essentials easily accessible, and store special-occasion or rarely used outerwear further back in your wardrobe or closet.

  
  

If You Have Longer

• Edit your collection: Try on each coat or jacket to check the fit and how you feel wearing it. Be honest—does it still suit your style, or does it simply take up space? Donate or sell anything you no longer love.

• Evaluate your needs: Take note of any gaps in your outerwear collection—like a waterproof jacket, a versatile coat, or a warm pair of gloves—and plan to fill those gaps thoughtfully.

• Revamp your storage: Install hooks, rails, or a shoe rack in your hallway or closet to create a neat and functional space for your outerwear. Use baskets or bins for scarves, gloves, and hats.
