Make space for what you’re actually wearing right now
This is one of my favourite jobs of the year!
When the seasons change, it's a good idea to move out of season clothing out of the way. This might mean moving it to the back of the wardrobe, putting it in boxes under the bed, or moving it into the attic.
Let me know how you get on and if you discover any forgotten clothing in the process.
If You Have 5 Minutes
Quick switch: Look through your wardrobe for one or two items that are definitely out of season—heavy jumpers in summer, or sundresses in winter. Move them aside to start the sorting process.
Check wear and tear: Spot anything damaged, faded or no longer your style? Set it aside for repair, donation, or recycling.
If You Have 30 Minutes
Sort by season: Take out everything that’s not suitable for the current season. Group items into categories—spring/summer and autumn/winter—and decide what to keep, store, or donate.
Pack away neatly: Fold and store out-of-season clothes in clearly labelled boxes, vacuum bags, or under-bed storage. Make sure items are clean before packing to avoid unpleasant surprises later.
If You Have Longer
Edit as you go: Try on items you’re unsure about. If something hasn’t been worn in a full season, it’s worth questioning whether it needs to stay. Let go of anything that no longer suits your lifestyle or taste.
Review storage space: Use this opportunity to declutter the space you’re storing seasonal clothes in. Make sure it’s dry, clean, and easy to access when the time comes to switch things again.
Refresh your wardrobe: With out-of-season items put away, take stock of what’s left. Organise by type or colour to make getting dressed easier and more enjoyable.
This Week’s Challenge:
Pack away your out-of-season clothes and declutter five items you no longer love or need. Enjoy the breathing room in your wardrobe and the feeling of being season-ready.
