Welcome to this week's 'jobs for the week'. As we are heading into the summer months, June's decluttering theme is outdoor areas and categories. A couple of these may end up overlapping so don't worry if you need extra time, we may end up coming back to it.
As always, let me know how you get on and tag me in any progress pics.
If You Have 5 Minutes
Quick check: Step into your shed, garage, or garden corner and pick out one or two items that are broken, rusted, or no longer used—old pots, dried-up seed packets, or damaged tools.
Sweep and straighten: Give the area a quick tidy. Group similar items together—gloves, hand tools, plant food—so you can see what you have.
If You Have 30 Minutes
Sort by type: Lay out all your gardening tools, accessories, and supplies. Sort into categories: tools, pots, compost, seeds, gloves, and décor.
Let go of what’s not useful: Toss anything broken beyond repair, hardened compost bags, duplicate tools, or cracked pots. If you haven’t used it in the last year, it’s probably not needed.
Organise the essentials: Clean tools and store them safely—hang them on hooks or keep them in a sturdy container. Stack pots neatly and group supplies in clearly labelled boxes or bins.
If You Have Longer
Check functionality: Sharpen blades, clean surfaces, and test tools to make sure everything works properly. Dispose of hazardous items like old weed killer responsibly at your local recycling centre.
Plan your space: If you have limited room, consider wall storage or shelves to maximise vertical space. Keep frequently used items easy to reach.
Review supplies: Go through seeds and supplies. Keep only what’s in date and suitable for your garden. Create a list of anything you need for the upcoming season to avoid unnecessary purchases.
This Week’s Challenge:
Declutter five gardening items you no longer need or use. A tidy gardening space means more time—and joy—spent outdoors.
