Jobs for the week - obvious clutter

Welcome to this week's 'jobs for the week'.

Continuing with this month's theme of building momentum, we are tacking the obvious clutter. This is anything which you can look at and know it needs to go without any further thought. That might be broken items, clothes which are damaged or don't fit, kids toys which they have grown out of, etc. If it requires any thought about whether to keep it or not, that is not what we are tackling. We are building momentum by keeping decisions to a minimum.

Let me know how this week goes and get in touch with any questions.

If you have 5 minutes

Pick out 2-3 items of obvious clutter to get rid of. Take it straight to the bin, recycling, or add it to your donation pile.

NOTE: make sure you have a box or bag ready to put your donations in. Ideally you should avoid using clear bags and boxes. We want you to forget what is in there once it has been added. The bag or box itself should be 'donate-able'. You don't want to have to double handle things by moving them to different containers.

If you have 30 minutes

Tackle one area or room of your home. Pick out any obvious junk or clutter and take it to the bin / recycling / donation box. Start with visible areas and avoid creating mess. If you have time, move onto another area.

If you have longer

Tackle as many areas as you can in the time you have. Once you have covered the most visible areas, tackle some of the less visible ones. Avoid getting pulled into any organising tasks. This week we are only focusing on the obvious stuff. We are building the skills now which we can use to tackle the harder stuff later.

NOTE: when going through the decluttering process, make time to donate your items regularly. Don't allow your donations to make their way back into your house. Get them out as soon as possible (the car boot does not count as out!)
