This week I would like you to tackle a potentially difficult area, paperwork. Many of us keep hold of way more paperwork than we actually need, simply because we think thinning it down will be a much bigger task than it actually is.
As usual, only do the jobs you have time for this week. It is never my intention to overwhelm you or shame you. Any progress you make is still progress.
Let me know how you get on.
If you have 5 minutes...
Empty receipts from your wallet / purse / bag. Throw away any you don't need (note: receipts are generally non recyclable) and store any you do need.
If you have 30 minutes...
Tackle any paperwork you have laying around the house. This could mean recycling junk mail, filing important paperwork, or recycling any old newspapers and magazines. Tackle the visible paperwork first so you can see your progress.
If you have longer...
Go through your stored paperwork.
Throw away anything outdated, e.g. paperwork for cars or electronics you no longer own.
Throw away any expired warrantees or warrantees for items you no longer own.
Consider clearing out instruction manuals even if you still own the item. Ask yourself, would you read it or just look it up on YouTube?
I'm not going to tell you everything that you should throw out as that will depend on the documents. You should obviously keep anything which is genuinely important or which you need for tax purposes.
File anything you are keeping to make it easier to find. You may consider investing in a fire proof filing box or cabinet.
