When it comes to hanging your clothes, which hangers are best? Should they be wooden, plastic, or velvet lined?
In this blog I am going to take you through the pros and cons of each style to help you make an informed choice. I’ve included a link to my preferred hangers at the bottom of the post.
Wooden Hangers
✅ They look great and are strong enough to hold heavy items such as coats and jackets.
❌ They take up a lot of space and can be expensive to buy.
Plastic Hangers
✅ You can pick them up for free when you buy clothes in stores. You may already have a wardrobe full of them!
✅ They are reasonably strong and you can buy matching sets to make them look more aesthetically pleasing.
❌ They can look very messy if they don’t match.
❌ They are not always strong enough to hold heavier items.
❌ They are not great for the environment and can be difficult to recycle.
Velvet Lined Hangers
✅ They are generally slim line so they take up less space in your wardrobe.
✅ They look aesthetically pleasing if you have the same colour and style throughout your wardrobe.
✅ They are reasonably inexpensive to buy.
✅ Your clothes won’t slip off them.
❌ I wouldn’t recommend them for children’s clothes as they will break easily if they are pulled about.
❌ They are unlikely to be strong enough for heavy items.
Conclusion
I prefer to use slim line velvet hangers for adult clothes. Choose the same colour and style for the best effect. You may wish to have a handful of wooded hangers for heavy items such as jackets, coats, or heavy dresses.
For children, I would stick with matching, small plastic hangers. Get larger hangers as the children grow.
